RSS Via Email

November 9, 2005

Interesting concept: Click their bookmarklet while you’re visiting a site with an RSS feed and from then on you receive email containing new postings.
This works so well that I’m considering dumping all the other ways I read RSS and just sticking with this.

This is what I’m looking at right now. For a change I see a UK media site where you don’t need to buy a look at a page.

FeedDigest Experiment

I am experimenting right now with FeedDigest. I’ve posted an experimental page on the site.

Let me know what you think of the concept.

photo Drop Updated

I just saw today that photo Drop has had a minor tweak in its version.

Now you can be warned that the modified images will over-write themselves. You can also select an optimum jpg quality.

Version History

1.01 (November 8, 2005)
- Added a warning about the destructive nature of droplets
- Added ability to use ‘Best’ compression when modifying the quality of images
- Added built in version checking to check for the latest versions
Automatic version checking can be disabled by entering in Terminal:
defaults write com.aksoftware.photoDrop CheckForUpdates NO
Automatic version checking can be re-enabled by entering in Terminal:
defaults write com.aksoftware.photoDrop CheckForUpdates YES

To those of you who have been coming to this blog via the Andrew’s Mac Tips website I’d like to thank you for putting up with all the recent changes; first the log was within the site, then it was over on Blogger.com, and now it’s here on Blogsome!

When the blog was within the site it was essentially hand made—like the rest of the site. Its look meshed nicely with the rest of the site, but I didn’t have the faintest idea how to integrate RSS or commenting. I set up the Blogger version, and then I remembered reading about WordPress and how powerfull it was, and I remembered the beautiful Kubric template, and the fact that it’s free!

I went to the WordPress site and downloaded the package. I tried setting up and SQL database on my server (I have no idea what that means) with no luck. Then I had one of those Duh! moments—Googled the phrase: free wordpress hosting, and here I am.

And I like it here.

The Kubric theme looks great and gels well with the rounded corners of the tips site, there’s RSS and commenting functionality everywhere, and I can use this space to ramble about things other than tips and reviews.

Now, to get to work on those sidebars…

Menu Master

Menu Master is a background utility that lets you quickly (and I mean quickly) modify the keyboard shortcuts that are associated with menu items. Here’s how it works: Pull down a menu and hold the pointer over the item you want to change. Enter the keyboard shortcut that you want to use from now on…
