Wasted

December 7, 2006

So I’m outside the doctor’s office in the car rather than in the dreary waiting room when a tosser in a Mercedes pulls up in the slot beside me. He sits there for a good ten minutes with the engine still running and the bass sounds of a talkback station booming from through the doors.

It wouldn’t be so terrible if I could actually hear the show, but all I get is mumble mumble mumble, very loudly. The Merc’s fan kicks in a couple of times sending fumes of coolant over me.

What a prick.

Yesterday I saw an unattended truck, parked for more than fifteen minutes, idling away god knows how much fuel for no reason. No wonder there’s an oil crisis.

Some lab in Germany did a study to determine when you should switch off and save fuel and when you should leave it running to save on wear and tear. The conclusion: if you’re sitting doing nothing more than thirty five seconds then go ahead and turn it off.

Ok, end of rant.
